Prologue
In a distant future, humanity has grown and developed amazing technologies, some that older generations had scoffed at due to their impossibility. With this technology, a shocking truth is discovered: the world is in an eternal cycle of death and rebirth. Every 5000 years, an event, known as "The Wave" sweeps the planet and ends all living things. After an unknown amount of time, the world is reborn. The next "Wave" will be occurring very soon.
Due to the extinguishing of all life during The Wave, scientists are unable to find out just what goes on between the death and the rebirth. Their assumptions lead to the idea that humanity's only chance is to create robots containing all knowledge humanity has acquired in the years between the Waves.
Seven robots have been created to test these assumptions.
These robots would not simply be mobile data storage. They were to have personalities as well. At the time of the Wave, only one of these personalities had been fully programmed.
This is where things take a turn for the worse.
The robots are activated before the predicted time of the Wave, unexpectedly triggering The Wave in the process. The Wave appears to be an ever-growing black sphere consuming everything in its path, removing any traces of life.
...Or so it looks like from the outside! It turns out that the wave is actually transmuting the living beings into other forms of life, vaguely similar to the robots humanity created to investigate The Wave and combat whatever would happen after. Any form of life changed by The Wave is unconscious for a period of time.
It is only after The Wave has consumed the globe that the truly important events begin. Three shadowy figures appear in the minds of the beings transformed; they aim to declare what has happened and what will follow.
